What the work is for

NeighborhoodOS helps neighbors understand a problem, find the right source or office, and choose a useful next step together. AI is one tool for drafting and practice. A person decides what matters and what to do.

Residents set the question

Start with the priorities people bring. A service request count does not tell us what a neighborhood values, and a facilitator does not decide for the people affected. Make room for disagreement, paper participation, and choosing not to use AI.

Make authority visible

Explain who can act: a city department, a utility, a property manager, a county office, or neighbors working together. Describe what the evidence supports and what still needs checking. When a barrier is institutional, do not imply that a better prompt makes it the resident's responsibility.

Protect the ability to participate

The public tools work without accounts. Brief answers stay in the current tab until a person copies or prints them. Hosts should arrange accessible rooms, language support, and funded payment for participants' time before announcing paid sessions. Confirm those arrangements in the listing.

Privacy commitments have concrete limits. The host can receive ordinary web-access information; external translation and contact services follow their own policies. See the Threat Model and Safety Doctrine.

Judge usefulness by what happens next

A lesson should help someone check a claim. A brief should identify a practical next step and a check-back date. A program result needs documented follow-through, a human review, and enough context to understand the limits.

Use voluntary feedback and aggregate measures. Count public resources and working tools as readiness; count verified changes as outcomes. Page visits, AI output, and citywide case closures do not prove the program helped.

Build with an exit

Use open materials people can print, adapt, and keep. Add software only after a repeated need is clear, and name who will maintain it. Retire a tool if it adds work without helping. The program should remain useful when a screen is turned off.
